MONSTERS HANG ON FOR 7-5 WIN

OXFORD, AL - The Choccolocco Monsters held on for a 7-5 win over the Cartersville Cannons on Friday night at Choccolocco Park.

The Monsters build a 4-0 lead through the first three innings by capitalizing on walks and timely hitting. Then in the fifth the Monsters tacked on three more runs to make it a 7-0 game.

But Cartersville would rally, batting around in the top of the sixth inning and scoring four runs to make it 7-4. Then the Canons added one more in the eighth to set the stage for a dramatic ninth inning.

Choccolocco’s Griff Minor managed to get the first hitter he faced to fly out to center, but successive singles gave the Canons life. After advancing on a passed ball to second and third, Minor managed to get leadoff hitter Brady McDevitt to pop out to first and Ethan Crawley to ground out to short and end the game.

Jake Goolsby led the offense by going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs on the night. Andrew Allen went five and a third innings, allowing three runs on just two hits while striking out seven and walking one for the win.

The same two teams are back at it tomorrow night at 6:05 pm CT. Tickets are on sale now through the Monsters website at this link or at the Choccolocco Park box office.
