MONSTERS COMPLETE SWEEP WITH 5-4 WIN

OXFORD, AL - Trey Higgins drove in three runs to pace the Choccolocco Monsters to a 5-4 win over the Cartersville Canons on Saturday night to complete the weekend series sweep.

Higgins drove in the game's first run with an RBI single in the first inning, and then belted a two-run home run to straightaway center in the fourth to put the Monsters up 3-0.

Cartersville would close the game to 3-2 but the Monsters added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to restore the three-run lead heading into the ninth.

The Canons did not go quietly, getting back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and then scoring two runs on Aidan Larkin's one out RBI single to right. But Monsters pitcher Avery Brown settled down to strike out the last two hitters he faced and end the game.

Thomas Ballard earned his second win of the season with three innings of work, taking over from starter Hayes Harrison who received a no decision. Brown earned the save, his fourth.

Choccolocco will now host the Waleska Wild Things in a Wednesday doubleheader starting at 5:05 pm. Tickets are available now through the Choccolocco Park box office and online through this link.
