MONSTERS ADD MAYNARD AS ASSISTANT, THREE CATCHERS TO ROSTER

OXFORD, AL - The Choccolocco Monsters announced the hiring of Sam Maynard as the team’s assistant coach for the 2024 Sunbelt Baseball League season. The team also added three catchers to the roster.


The Harvest, Alabama native joins the Monsters coaching staff after playing college baseball for the past four years. Maynard pitched two seasons at Southern Union State, appearing in 40 games as both a starter and reliever. Maynard transferred to Jacksonville State University where he appeared in 51 games and graduated this spring. Sam has also coached travel baseball for the past three seasons and will now bring his playing and coaching experience to the Monsters.


Meanwhile behind the plate, the Monsters added Sebastian Collender, Jacob Cooper and Tate Morris. Collender played collegiately last season with Glenville State College but is currently undecided. Cooper is coming off his freshman season at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY where he appeared in 13 games, hitting .222 and compiling a .498 ops. Morris is currently enrolled at the University of West Georgia as a sophomore. 


The Monsters return to Oxford for the 2024 SBL season, with the home opener scheduled for Friday, June 7 at 7:05 pm CT against the Brookhaven Bucks.
